Sailing on a tug boat on a sunny afternoon.

I love photographing unexpected events. Last week I was asked by the Kroepoekfabriek to keep my Saturday morning and afternoon to shoot an event on a special location. This location turned out to be the Elbe. A seaworthy tug boat built in 1959. Sidenote: I love sailing. The first few years of my life was spent on board of several ships where my dad was head engineer, and many a summer vacation was spent on board, well, as long as my dad was working. This ended when I was about 15 when he retired early. So this was a nice chance to be back on the water.

We sailed out of the Elbe’s home port Maassluis towards Rotterdam. We went by the SS Rotterdam, quite the sight to see from waterlevel and then past the Verolme shipyards. The event was organised by Fonds Schiedam Vlaardingen who are celebrating their 25th anniversary. Stichting Fonds Schiedam Vlaardingen provides donations to organisations dedicated to the local community and are instrumental in the Schiedam, Vlaardingen, Maassluis area.

You can find a selection of these photo’s in the Event Photography section.

A new year, a new publication and a new blog.

Last Sunday a new edition of the “Sex, Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll High School” magazine was launched in Rotown, Rotterdam. SDRNRHS started life in 2007, and a new updated version was needed. The magazine’s audience is Dutch musicians. It’s published to give an inside look at how the Dutch music industry operates and sounds. It has some fantastic interviews and articles, has a “who’s who” and you can find information on what you need to know how to get ahead in the industry.

Three of the articles make use of my work. The first is an interview with the director of the Kroepoekfabriek, Renske Verbeek, on sponsoring for venues and how she did it for her venue. The second set of photos are the 3 bookers; Katja Keersmaekers (Friendly Fire), Mitchell Quitz (Rock ‘n’ Roll Highschool) and Kim Bloem (Mojo). These three had a long round-table interview/ discussion in the old executive office of a former bank in Delft. They spent a few hours talking about their work as a booker while I shot their portraits. The last article is an interview with manager Cedric Muyres, who manages one of the, if not, the biggest Dutch band at this moment, Kensington.

New update

New site, new updates!

New gear, new challenges to be met, more photo’s to take !

Although my site is a bit empty at the moment I am curating my best shots I’ve taken over the last year and adding them as soon as possible. I’m not much of a writer so news updates will be short and sweet.

Outdated update

Been a while since I’ve updated my site.

Last few updates have been bundled in one post. Danko Jones, System of a Down. All can be found in the portfolio section.

Rise Against

New day, new photo’s (yes, that same old sentence)

Rise Against added to PORTFOLIO, review on the OOR website (Dutch only).

For the rest I’ve been quite busy with a new project coming out in the new year called Story Volumes. Site isn’t online yet but is dedicated to the stories of forward-thinking people who are focused on creativity, innovation and development. One week you might read about a talented artist, followed by an innovative start-up the next week and a visionary thinker the week after that.

This is a project I’ll be doing with a writer. He’ll be doing the words, I’m there for the visuals. More to come…
